Brakes Safety
- Check the fluid level in the brake fluid container - it should be close to the 'max' mark. Low brake fluid level in one of the first indicators that a vehicle's brake pads are worn out.
- Be aware of how your brakes feel underfoot. A hard or spongy pedal can be an indication of air in the hydraulic system.
- If the brake pedal goes down too far, this may be indicative of a brake system problem
- A red brake-warning light that stays on may indicate an imbalance in the car's hydraulic system.
- If the vehicle pulls aside during braking, this could be symptomatic of a brake system problem.
- If the brake pedal pulsates and/or the vehicle vibrates during braking, this could be symptomatic of a brake system problem.
- Any kind of noise while braking (e.g. screeching, squeaking or grinding) is indicative of worn and/or damaged brakes.
- If the brakes drag and the vehicle does not roll freely, this could be symptomatic of a brake system problem.
- If there is an odour of burnt brakes, this is a highly dangerous situation and may indicate brake failure. Brakes should be replaced immediately.
