Approximately 80 vehicle entries – in a fascinating array of shapes and sizes – tackled the range of tough challenges and obstacles that had been specially laid out in the grounds of the school. It took skill and determination but ultimately it was the following three category winners who came out tops this year – Hannes Erasmus (Modified category), Lukas Holtzhausen (Super Truck category) and Ian Guthrie (Production category). They drove away with the champion titles as well as some great prizes from leading tyre network Hi-Q, one of the event’s major sponsors.
Challenge organiser Petri Jansen van Rensburg, who is a dedicated member of the school’s parent body and a 4x4 fan, said the this was the fifth year in which Vaalrivier Primary School had hosted the fund-raising fair.
“The event grows in size and success every year. Off-road enthusiasts come from near and far to take part in the 4x4 Challenge. It’s really a lot of fun,” Petri said.
Hi-Q Regional Business Development Manager Wynand Loubser said the day had been well attended and a great success.
“Hi-Q Vanderbijlpark has offered the school its support and sponsorship in previous years, but this is the first year in which the Hi-Q franchise has been involved. The 4x4 market is growing steadily in South Africa and events like these offer Hi-Q an opportunity to extend its services to the market out there.
“There was good visibility for both Hi-Q and Goodyear on Saturday - banners and bunting fluttered in the breeze, the challenge marshals wore Hi-Q shirts and we had a gazebo at the fair too. We also donated Hi-Q winter jackets and jerseys as prizes, as well as lucky draw spot prizes for spectators throughout the day.
“The 4x4 vehicle owners and even the spectators are passionate about their cars and their sport. Altogether 170 Hi-Q stores throughout the country supply a wide range of products and services to this market, so this was an ideal opportunity for us to link their passion with ours,” Loubser said.
